Have a healthy diet

The National Institutes of Health has developed an eating plan specifically for people with hypertension – the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet – which has been found to control blood pressure.

Generally, this diet emphasizes eating fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products – with very little fat, sugar, and salt. This diet plan can reduce blood pressure in just two weeks.

Each of us has unique dietary needs, so you have to consult with your nutritionist or doctor first about what you should eat. Basically, your daily calorie requirements largely depend on your age, size, and activity level. A slightly active 55-year-old man who has an average height and weight needs a 2,000-calorie diet a day. A tall and athletic 35-year-old guy needs a 3,000-calorie diet daily to maintain the right weight.

If you have hypertension, you must limit your sodium consumption to about 1,500 milligrams a day. This can hard if you are used to eating processed foods such as processed cheese, cold cuts, canned soups, etc.

Read food labels to know the quantity of sodium contained in any canned or packaged food you buy. Overall, a healthy diet helps you to achieve a toned and leaner body, improves self-esteem, and makes you feel more sexually attractive.

Have a regular workout

There is really no need to hit the gym if you want to lower your blood pressure. A regular jog or brisk walk can get your body moving and control your blood pressure.

Here are the Centers for Disease Control’s recommendation: a 30-minute moderate workout five days every week or a 20-minute vigorous workout three days per week. Regular exercise can improve blood circulation, which results in normal sexual functioning.

Don’t smoke

It is no secret that cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health. Studies have found a significant link between cigarette smoking and erectile function. Smoking can damage your blood vessels, which may result in erectile dysfunction. A 1991 study revealed that 20% of smokers being treated for hypertension could not get erections.
